My Beautiful Red Bosch Mixer

Making ice cream in the Bosch is so easy.  The attachment is no longer available for sale as a new item.  They can occasionally be found on ebay but are few and far between.  I actually bought another mixer in order to get the ice cream attachment because it was an all-in-one deal.  My sister was lucky enough to find the attachment by itself.  Prices can vary widely.
Here's the parts of the ice cream attachment.  The aluminum canister holds the ice cream mixture.  The white cap with rotating blades sits on top and snaps into place where you see the knobs on the white canister.
Here's what it looks like when the unit is assembled.
Here's the unit sitting in place on the mixer base.  In case you're not familiar with a Bosch mixer....that lid on the top right comes off and a blender goes there.
In this picture you can see I've got the ice in place.  I was making chocolate cherry ice cream so the chopped maraschino cherries are ready to be added during the last few minutes of freezing.

The ice is layered with ice cream salt just like you would do if you were using a traditional ice cream maker.

I'm pouring the chocolate ice cream mixture into the aluminum canister.  Don't fill it up too much as the mixture will get larger as air is incorporated during the freezing cycle.  I haven't quite figure out what the right amount is...I usually have ice cream pushing the lid out of the top before it's finished freezing.
It's ready for me to turn on the mixer.  I start it on power level #1 and increase it to #2 after a few minutes of blending.  I rarely use #3.  It doesn't take long for the Bosch to do its magic.
I added the cherries before the end and here's what I have.  You can let it sit in the ice or put it in the deep freezer to "ripen" if you want to.  We can never let it sit that long.  We eat it as soft-serve.

Ice cream is just one of the things this great mixer can do.  I've made double batches of homemade bread, double batches of biscotti, double batches of cookies....it's a great mixer!  And it's red !!!!!

Unfortunately, the red ones were a special promotion and are no longer available as new stock unless you're really, really lucky.

f you're interested in learning more about the Bosch line of mixers, there's a great group on Yahoo for mixer owners where you can get lots of great info.  The group is called.....MixerOwners....No affil.
